This Privacy Policy explains how OptimalLayout ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses and protects information when you visit optimallayout.com (the "Service"). By using the Service you agree to this policy.

1. Who we are

OptimalLayout is an online cutting list optimizer for sheet materials. For privacy questions you can reach us at info@optimallayout.com.

2. Information we collect

  • Account data: when you sign up we store your email address and (if you use Google sign-in) your name and profile picture.
  • Project data: sheets, panels and project settings you save are stored in our database, linked to your account.
  • Usage data: standard server logs (IP address, user agent, pages visited, timestamps) for security and analytics.

3. How we use information

  • To operate the optimizer and save your projects.
  • To authenticate you and secure your account.
  • To analyse usage and improve the Service.
  • To display advertising (free tier) via Google AdSense.
  • To respond to support requests.

4. Legal basis (GDPR)

We process personal data based on (a) performance of a contract (providing the Service to you), (b) your consent (for non-essential cookies and advertising), and (c) our legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, product improvement).

5. Sharing of information

We do not sell your personal data. We share data only with:

  • Service providers that host our infrastructure, database and authentication.
  • Google AdSense for advertising on the free tier.
  • Google Analytics / Search Console for aggregated usage statistics.
  • Authorities if required by law.

6. Advertising, Google AdSense and cookies

  • Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on a user's prior visits to this website or other websites.
  • Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to our users based on their visit to our site and/or other sites on the Internet.
  • Users may opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. Alternatively, users can opt out of a third-party vendor's use of cookies for personalised advertising by visiting www.aboutads.info.

6a. Analytics and our own cookies

  • Analytics: we run our own privacy-friendly, cookie-less analytics that counts page views, optimizer calculations and PDF exports, together with a country-level location derived from your IP address. We also use Google Search Console (aggregated search statistics) and may use Google Analytics; where Google Analytics is active it sets cookies to distinguish visitors and measure sessions.
  • Login and account cookies: when you sign in, our authentication provider stores a session token in your browser (cookie and/or local storage) so you stay logged in. These are strictly necessary and cannot be switched off while you use an account.
  • Tool preferences: the optimizer stores your settings and unsaved projects (units, kerf, sheets, panels, language) locally in your browser. This data is not advertising-related.

7. Data retention

Account and project data are kept for as long as your account is active. Server and analytics logs are retained for up to 24 months. You can request deletion at any time.

8. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict or port your personal data, and to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, email info@optimallayout.com. You may also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

9. International transfers

Our service providers may process data outside the EU/EEA. Where this is the case, we rely on appropriate safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

10. Children

The Service is not directed at children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be announced on this page with a new "last updated" date.
